Venture capital firm, Taranis, joins NEP

The Negative Emissions Platform (NEP) is pleased to welcome Taranis as our newest member, bringing an investor perspective to NEP’s work to accelerate technology-enabled negative emissions solutions and enable the conditions for permanent carbon removals to scale with integrity in Europe.

Who is Taranis?

Taranis is an investment and impact project development entity of a family-owned group. Its mission is to research and finance innovative initiatives focused on energy access, carbon circularity, and nature-based solutions.

Taranis operates through dedicated funds that span:

  • Carbon Ventures, which supports “carbon circularity” through investments in startups with proven hardware technology, with focus areas including Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) (alongside carbon capture and utilisation, methane emissions abatement, and plastic recycling) and a primary geographic focus on Europe and North America.

  • Energy for Africa, focused on developing renewable energy projects across the African continent.

  • Nature-Based Solutions, which targets nature-based projects such as forest conservation/management, afforestation/reforestation, and wetland restoration, with an aim to generate high-quality carbon credits (avoidance and removal) linked to measurable outcomes and co-benefits.

Why Taranis joining NEP matters

NEP’s membership brings together actors working to scale permanent carbon removals responsibly. The investor lens is an important part of that ecosystem. Investor perspectives can help sharpen what “scalable” looks like in practice - from risk allocation to long-term durability expectations - while keeping integrity front and centre. They also add a practical lens on what it takes to scale responsibly over time, including durability, transparency, and policy clarity.

A word from Taranis

“We believe that achieving permanent carbon storage at scale requires strong industry collaboration to shape supportive policies and build public trust. As a venture capital investor committed to carbon management, we look forward to partnering with NEP and its members to accelerate progress toward this shared mission.”
David Sorin, Managing Director, Taranis Carbon Ventures

NEP looks forward to collaborating with Taranis and all our members to advance policy and market frameworks that support high-integrity, durable carbon removals.
