We’re hiring: Secretary-General of the Negative Emissions Platform

The Negative Emissions Platform (NEP) is recruiting a Secretary-General to lead our strategy, advocacy and operations from Brussels.

Our mission is to make permanent carbon removals a scaled, bankable industry that is integral to Europe’s path to climate neutrality and net-negative emissions. This role offers the opportunity to shape the policies, funding and market conditions that will help turn that ambition into deployment.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Secretary-General will lead NEP’s engagement with EU institutions and national governments, working closely with our team and members. Priorities include the integration of permanent removals into the EU Emissions Trading System, the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Certification Framework, and the EU’s 2040 climate framework.

The role combines strategic leadership with direct involvement in policy development and advocacy. Alongside representing the sector in high-level meetings, public debate and the media, the Secretary-General will lead our team, grow our membership and funding base, and ensure the organisation’s financial sustainability.

We are looking for a collaborative, hands-on leader with at least seven years of EU policy experience, including three in a leadership role. Candidates should bring an established network across EU institutions and Member States, strong policy and communication skills, and experience managing teams, budgets and membership or funding growth.

Location: Brussels
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Gross annual compensation: €150,000-€170,000, including 13th month and holiday pay, subject to automatic indexation.
Deadline: 16 October 2026
Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis.
