Emicap joins Negative Emissions Platform
The Negative Emissions Platform welcomes Emicap as its newest member. Belgium based, Emicap is a technology developer and system integrator for permanent carbon removal, turning industrial CO₂ into permanently stored material.
From Industrial Engineering to Carbon Removal
Emicap grew out of LM Engineering, a Belgium based industrial engineering firm with years of experience delivering industrial solutions. Building on that experience, Emicap developed its own carbon capture technology, designed for industries such as waste-to-energy plants.
Emicap positions itself as Europe's first system integrator combining carbon capture and mineralisation, offering one contracted, accountable value chain rather than a single piece of technology.
How It Works
Emicap captures CO₂ at the source and permanently binds it into construction materials, on the same site, using a chemical-free process. All operations take place in Belgium, keeping the entire chain traceable from capture to storage.
Scaling Permanent Removal
Emicap's most advanced project, developed with a biomass power plant, targets the permanent removal of around 50,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, with operations starting in 2028. By 2035, further installations are planned, growing total capacity to 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
Projects run on long-term agreements with a "no cure, no pay" model, backed by independent verification, giving buyers certainty in a market where most announced removal volumes are still unbuilt.
What Emicap Brings to NEP
Emicap brings direct experience integrating carbon capture and mineralisation technology, structuring long-term agreements, and building traceable, verified carbon removal chains. As part of NEP, Emicap will contribute this perspective to discussions on certification, market integrity and the policies needed to scale permanent carbon removal across Europe.
A Word from Emicap
"Actions speak louder than words towards a green and sustainable future." - Luigi Meersman, Founder of Emicap
NEP looks forward to working with Emicap to advance the policy and market conditions needed to move permanent carbon removal from promise to industrial-scale delivery.
